What is UK Grime?
UK Grime is a genre of music which has been developing in London’s underground since 2002. Grime’s tempo is around 140 beats per minute. Style of flow also varies but its most common for rappers or MCs to “spit” double time or aggressively over the beat.
UK Grime is a new genre of music that has been developed by the streets of London . It all started in 2002 by Londons first grime crew , most people have never heard of the “PAY AS U GO CARTEL ” but it is how it all began. Grime is usualy aggressive beats over a fast beat. The average track is 140 beats per minute which is high compared to American rap.
Grime got sucessful after pirate radio stations began to play artists and giving them an “underground reputation” , many people like Kano and Dizzee Rascal have been able to become mainstream .
However before UK Grime emerged, it was all about UK Garage . Certain producers and MCs began to exlplore a harder , darker and more aggressive level in which they could realse stress on the mic. Hence in around 2002 the term grime was born and since then the scene has grown and strengthened.
Long after 2002 muscial gang culture has boomed . Now famous crews such as Roll Deep Crew, Nasty Crew, Ruff Sqwad, East Connection & More Fire Crew , are now commericaly sucessful.
Only one grime mc has really become an international star. Dizzee Rascal began MCing when he was just 15 years old ( common these days) . He was played on East Londons finest pirate stations until he teamed up with Roll Deep . Wiley ( the godfather of grime) from saw something in young Dizzee and brought him into the scene. XL Recordings was quick to sign Dizzee Rascal and gained worldwide fame from his first album.
